Arthritis affects many different age groups and all ethnicities. Arthritis can take many forms but the most common are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile arthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, it is a progressive degenerative joint disease characterized by the breakdown of joint cartilage which is associated with risk factors such as obesity, history of joint injury and age. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a systemic disease characterized by the inflammation of the membranes lining the joint which can cause pain, stiffness, warmth, swelling and sometimes severe joint damage. Symptoms of osteoarthritis may include joint pain and increased stiffness that can develop gradually. Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis may include painful swelling, inflammation, and stiffness in the fingers, arms, legs, and wrists occurring in the same joints on both sides of the body, which are most common to occur in the morning hours.
